From the garden you can walk down to the sandy beach from where you can explore the myriad of rockpools or take a stroll around the bay to the lighthouse. You could take a day trip on the ferry to the neighbouring island of Jura where 5000 red deer roam the magnificent mountainous paps or loose a day on lovely Colonsay where time seems to have stopped altogether. Islay is a bird watchers paradise. The RSPB Visitor Centre on Loch Gruinart provides closed circuit TV viewing and is well worth a visit.
